Tests

6. When you get a test back, re-work the problems you didn’t get right.
TEACHERS:  Give your students partial credit for word problems; don’t just look at the answer and mark it wrong or right.  Take the time to find and mark the step where they went wrong.  Have students show their work on tests so you can help them see where their reasoning is going astray.  Consider giving the students partial credit for reworking the problems and explaining to you or a classmate how they should have solved the problem.

7. Ask your teacher what the format of the exam will be.
TEACHERS:  Give your students practice problems several days before the test.  Let them know what they are expected to know for the test – want your students to succeed on the test.  Let your students know that you are on their side and want them to do well.  Have a team approach rather than a “I’m out to get you because I am the teacher.”

You can do it!
